HBO Max Profiles

Led the addition of user profiles — one of the largest changes in the transition from HBO GO/NOW to HBO Max.

The addition of user profiles was among the largest changes to come with the transition from HBO GO/NOW and HBO Max. I was the feature lead for this work, responsible for organizing everything from UX to research to delivery with teams spread throughout our org.

In a Nutshell

Most Fun

The transition to Profiles affected nearly every aspect of our product, which meant a lot of collaboration across teams I didn't often get to work with.

Biggest Challenge

This project kicked off right as AT&T began their acquisition of TimeWarner, HBO's parent company. This meant undertaking this large and complex feature right as the organization was being built up into its new form, without any formalized decision-making processes or even a product name or color palette.

In Retrospect

I wish that I would have had the chance to really push the envelope of what the entry page could be. The standard array of profiles is efficient, but doesn't take full advantage of the space available.

Profile System

The profiles system needed to handle creation, editing, switching, and deletion across all platforms. It touched nearly every surface of the product and required careful coordination across multiple teams during a period of significant organizational change.
